Thailand Visa and Passport Requirements

Passports:

To enter Thailand, your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the arrival date and have at least one blank page.

Passport note:

All foreign nationals entering Thailand, whether by air, land or sea, must complete a digital arrival card online within three days before arrival.

Visas:

Nationals from the following countries and territories can enter Thailand without a visa for tourism or short-term business purposes and stay for up to 60 days. These countries are:

Asia: Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Americas: Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, and Uruguay.

Africa: Mauritius, Morocco, and South Africa.

Europe: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, and United Kingdom.

Middle East: Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates.

Oceania: Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

Please note that visa policies are subject to change. It's advisable to consult official Thai government sources or contact the nearest Thai embassy or consulate before planning your travel.

Types and cost:

The cost of a Thai tourist e-visa varies depending on the consulate and the applicant's country of residence.

Validity:

Tourist e-visas for Thailand are usually valid for 90 days from the date of issuance.

Transit:

A transit visa is required for foreign nationals who need a visa to enter Thailand and plan to leave the international transit area for more than 12 hours.

Temporary residence:

Visitors to Thailand who wish to conduct business, work or study in the country can apply for a non-immigrant visa. The single-entry and multi-entry visas allow holders a stay for up to 90 days and one year respectively. In addition, to be able to work, visitors must hold a work permit issued by the Ministry of Labour.

Working days:

Allow five to seven working days for visa processing, provided all requirements are met and the case is straightforward.

Sufficient funds:

When applying for a visa, applicants must provide proof of sufficient funds.

Extension of stay:

If you wish to extend your stay, contact the Immigration Bureau (www.immigration.go.th). There is a TH฿1,900 fee for visa extensions.

Be wary of visa-run or visa extension services offering to renew your visa - these are illegal and each year a number of tourists are jailed, having turned up to border crossings with a fake Thailand visa or entry stamp in their passport.

Thailand visa extensions must be made before the current visa runs out. A lengthy overstay can incur a maximum penalty of time in jail before being deported and banned from returning to the country. If you wish to extend your stay, contact the Immigration Bureau (www.immigration.go.th).

Entry with children:

Children travelling with one parent or alone must have a notarised letter of consent from one or both parents.

Entry with pets:

Pets must first be microchipped with an ISO 11784 pet microchip. Pets must also be vaccinated against rabies (between 21 days and 12 months) before entering the country if they are from a country that has had any rabies incidents in the last 12 months.

An import permit from the Department of Livestock Development (DLD) is required for all pets.

All Pit Bull breeds must be spayed or neutered before entry to Thailand.
