From central Birmingham, take the eastbound Interstate 59/20 to exit 129; turn left at the end of the exit and follow Messer Airport Highway to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. The journey should take approximately 10 minutes.
From Atlanta, take the westbound Interstate 20 to Interstate 20/59, depart at exit 129, and follow directions as above. The driving time from central Atlanta is approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Public Transport
Shuttle: Birmingham Door to Door (tel: +1 205 591 5550; www.birminghamdoortodoor.com) operates airport shuttle services to central Birmingham, which take around 15 to 20 minutes. Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Other shuttle providers include eShuttle (tel: +1 205 702 4566) and Meteors Shuttle (tel: +1 205 980 1083).
Taxis: Taxis are available 24/7 on the ground level outside the baggage claim area. The airport is served by Yellow Cab (tel: +1 205 222 2222; www.birminghamyellowcab.com), among other providers. Fares to the city centre start at around US$15, and the journey takes about 15 minutes.
Terminal facilities
ATMs can be found throughout the terminal: in the baggage reclaim area, on the upper level of concourses A and B, and near the food courts of concourses B and C.
Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport and public telephones are positioned at various points within the complex.
There is a small selection of places to eat at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Among those are fast-food outlets, restaurants, a delicatessen and a snack bar – most of which are located after the security screening area on the upper levels of concourses A and B.
Newsagents and shops selling gift items can be found on the upper level of concourse B. Duty-free shopping is not available as this is a domestic-only airport.
Lost and found services are provided at the information desk (tel: +1 205 599 0500). Baggage trolleys can be hired at a cost of US$5. Skycap porters are on hand to assist with luggage on the upper level and in the baggage claim area.

Those who have some spare time before or after a flight can head to the Southern Museum of Flight (+1 205 833 8226), which is located just outside the airport.

Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is fully accessible for disabled travellers, with lifts, ramps and easy-access toilets. The parking facilities here have designated spaces for disabled travellers. Wheelchairs can be supplied on request and passengers are advised to inform their airline of any special needs in advance.
There are more than 5,000 spaces available for short- and long-term parking in the multi-storey car park opposite the terminal building. Short-term parking is located on level 3, while long-term parking is offered on levels 2 and 4 to 7; level 3 is connected by crosswalks to concourses A and B.
The remote long-term parking area has a further 900 spaces and is serviced by a complimentary shuttle. The ‘cell phone lot’ for drivers picking up arriving passengers is located near the airport entrance, on Airport Drive. Car hire companies: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, Payless, National and Thrifty have counters in the 1B area of the multi-storey car park – all hire cars should be picked-up and dropped-off on the ground floor of this building.
Hotels
There are few hotels near Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport; however, the airport's proximity to Birmingham city means numerous accommodation options are available within minutes of arrival. Most local and city hotels offer courtesy shuttle transportation to and from the terminal.
Days Inn Fultondale is less than 9.7 km (6 miles) from Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. Apart from the provision of a complimentary breakfast there are no dining options on-site, but rooms here are equipped with fridges and microwaves. The hotel also offers a fitness centre for guests.
