Passports

Passports must be valid for at least six months after arrival and should contain at least two blank pages.

Travellers should ensure that an immigration officer stamps their passport on entry. A missing entry stamp can cause delays and a fine when leaving Guatemala.

Travellers must complete the online Regional Sworn Traveller Declaration before entering and leaving Guatemala. The confirmation QR code should be saved or printed and shown to the authorities if requested.

Passport note

Passport and visa regulations are subject to change, and airlines may have different requirements. Information is correct at the time of writing; travellers should check with the relevant embassy before departure, particularly when transiting through a third country. We accept no liability for any inconvenience or loss arising from changes to these requirements.

Visas

Nationals of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and EU member states do not require a visa for tourist visits of up to 90 days.

Guatemala is part of the Central America-4 Border Control Agreement, usually known as CA-4, with El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua. For most visitors, the 90-day allowance covers time spent across all four countries and does not begin again when crossing between them.

Nationals not listed above should check their requirements with the nearest Guatemalan embassy or consulate. Visitors may be asked to provide proof of accommodation, sufficient funds and onward or return travel.

Types and cost

Guatemala issues single-entry and multiple-entry visas. Fees vary according to the type of visa and where the application is made. Published consular charges are commonly US$50 for a single-entry visa and US$150 for a multiple-entry visa, or the equivalent in local currency. Applicants should confirm the current fee with the relevant Guatemalan embassy or consulate.

Validity

A tourist visa normally permits a stay of up to 90 days. The visa will state its period of validity, the number of permitted entries and the length of stay allowed.

Application to

Applications should be made through the Guatemalan embassy or consulate responsible for the applicant's country of nationality or legal residence. Some nationalities require prior authorisation from the Guatemalan immigration authorities before a consulate can issue a visa.

Working days

Applicants should allow up to 30 days for a decision. Applications requiring prior authorisation or additional checks may take longer.

Sufficient funds

Visa applicants may be asked to provide bank statements or other evidence that they can support themselves during their visit.
