Where to stay in Antarctica

Antarctica has no conventional hotels. Most visitors stay aboard expedition ships throughout their journey, going ashore during organised landings and returning to the vessel afterwards.

Specialist operators run seasonal camps in the Antarctic interior for travellers undertaking fly-in expeditions to destinations such as the South Pole, Mount Vinson and other remote areas. Accommodation ranges from expedition tents to purpose-built camps, with all transport, meals and logistical support arranged as part of the expedition.

Research stations are not generally open as tourist accommodation, although some expeditions may visit stations where access is permitted.
